About Bhagwan Kunthunath
The 17th Tirthankara whose divine journey from prince to enlightened master continues to inspire millions
Bhagwan Kunthunath was born as Prince Kunthu in the royal family of King Shurasena in Hastinapur. His birth was marked by divine signs and celestial celebrations, indicating the arrival of a great soul.
From childhood, Prince Kunthu displayed extraordinary wisdom, compassion, and detachment from worldly pleasures. He showed deep interest in spiritual matters and the welfare of all living beings.
Born in Hastinapur during the reign of King Shurasena
At the age of 25, Prince Kunthu renounced his royal life, leaving behind the palace, wealth, and all worldly attachments. This great renunciation (Diksha) marked the beginning of his spiritual journey.
He embraced the life of an ascetic, practicing severe austerities, meditation, and following the path of non-violence. His renunciation inspired many to follow the spiritual path.
Renounced worldly life at age 25 to pursue spiritual enlightenment
After years of intense spiritual practice and meditation, Bhagwan Kunthunath attained Keval Gyaan (omniscience) – the highest form of knowledge where all karmic veils are removed.
With this divine knowledge, he became a Tirthankara and began preaching the path of liberation to countless souls, establishing the four-fold sangha of monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen.
Achieved omniscience and became the 17th Tirthankara
After a long life dedicated to spiritual teaching and guiding souls toward liberation, Bhagwan Kunthunath attained Nirvana (final liberation) from the cycle of birth and death.
His Nirvana marked the completion of his earthly mission, but his teachings and divine presence continue to guide devotees on the path of righteousness and spiritual awakening.

Divine Birth Signs
Legend tells that when Kunthunath was born, the three worlds rejoiced. Divine beings descended from heaven to celebrate, and auspicious signs appeared throughout the kingdom. The newborn prince’s radiance illuminated the entire palace, signifying his future role as a spiritual guide.
The Great Renunciation
The moment Prince Kunthu decided to renounce worldly life, it is said that even the gods were moved by his determination. As he left the palace, flowers rained from the sky, and celestial music filled the air, blessing his spiritual journey toward enlightenment.
